• The best looking Hosta varieties for dry shade have rich green leaves; blue-leaved varieties grow equally well in the shade but don't stand out as well in really dark corners.
• Yellow or bright green leaved varieties tend to be the best choices out in the sun (with a moist soil, or in an irrigated bed), because their leaves are less sensitive to sun scorch.
