Rosa Etoile de Hollande Hybrid Tea Rose

Etoile de Hollande is an exquisite deep carmine red, heavily damask scented climbing rose with beautiful double hybrid tea blooms and abundant dark green foliage. It is fast growing with strong, branched, thorny stems and, although it will tolerate some light shade, it is best in full sun. It is reliably repeat flowering with an abundance of flowers in June and July and a very good flush in late summer or early autumn.

Great in your garden

Etoile de Hollande is one of the most stunning red climbing roses with beautiful velvety, double crimson flowers and axquisite, seductive scent. It is absolutely the most perfect red rose to cover a house wall, or for fences and pillars. It is best planted where the superb, rich perfume can best be appreciated, close to a terrace or sitting area or where the scent can drift in through open windows in summer. The arrangement of the blooms, on strong hanging stems, also makes it ideal as a cutting rose.

Trivia

Etoile de Hollande, Star of Holland, was bred in 1879 by H S Verschuren & Sons in the Netherlands. Hens Verschuren was a school teacher whose great interest and hobby was rose growing and hybridising. This passion badly affected his performance at school and he was advised by a visiting school inspector that he had to choose between his career or his roses; there was no choice. Thus H S Verschuren & Sons was born. In 1888 he wrote a book simply called 'The Rose' in which he states that "Flowers are a luxury that is not useless and that anyone can afford".
