Suitable for any well drained soil, they thrive on clay as long as the site isn't waterlogged in winter. They should get as much sun as possible and benefit from a sheltered microclimate in colder Northern regions.
Bred by Gareth Fryer, registration code FRYaffair, and introduced in 1997 as Sight Saver, named after the charity. In the US, it is sold as The Oregonian, in honour of that newspaper's 150th Anniversary.
If planting against a wall, leave about a 45cm (18") space.
Dig a hole deep enough to place the graft union between your rose's stem and roots at soil level (so it's at approximately the same level in the soil as it was before being transplanted), with plenty of room for the roots to spread out.
Improve the soil from the hole by removing rubbish, large stones, weeds and roots, then mixing in about 25% by volume of well rotted compost or manure and dusting it with bone meal. It is usually more convenient to do the mixing on a ground sheet or in a wheelbarrow.
If your rose is bareroot, wet the roots before planting. It often helps to make a small mound at the base of the hole to set the base of the rose onto and spread the roots over.
If pot grown, soak the pot and then gently loosen some of the roots. Sprinkle some Rootgrow onto the soil, put the rose on top of it, and sprinkle the rest over the roots.
When the roots are spread out and the graft union is level with the soil, backfill the hole with the improved soil, firming it down as you go. Water in thoroughly, water again two days later, and then keep watering in dry spells during the first and second growing seasons.
Ornamental roses are hungry feeders and flower best when they are mulched every year and given rose food during the growing season.

Delivery: Our standard delivery charges are:
*Surcharges to the Highlands and Islands still apply.
Because couriers sometimes experience delays, we schedule delivery by week, not by day. Therefore, please plan your planting day for the weekend at the end of the delivery week or for the week following delivery, at the earliest.
We will email you the day before your plants are due to arrive.
Payment: We do not charge your card until we begin to prepare your order for packing.
Guarantee: If any plants die within a year, we will replace them. We only ask that you follow our planting & growing instructions and sent us clear photographs of the dead plants in situ, so we can help to make sure that the replacement plants succeed. You only pay for the delivery of the replacements.
Please note that our guarantee is void if there is a hosepipe ban in your area: your newly planted hedging must be watered in dry weather while it is establishing. The best way to water is very thoroughly every few days: at least once a week in summer if there is no heavy rain.
Our nursery has been supplying container grown and bareroot hedging plants to gardeners, farmers and town planners since 1949. Our website started in 2003, so we do understand the concerns that you may have about buying hedging plants online. If any of your plants are damaged when they arrive or if you are otherwise not satisfied with your order after you inspect it, please repackage it and contact us. We will give you a refund or send replacements and send a courier to come and collect the unwanted plants.
