Hot Banana Chilli Pepper Plants

Banana chillies produce prolific crops of tangy fruits that ripen from yellow to bright shades of orange and red. Ideal for children and people who prefer a milder flavour, these delicious chilli peppers taste great on pizzas and in sandwiches and salsas. The large, tapering fruit are also good for pickling, stuffing and frying. One of the mildest members of our range of chillis.

Growing Hot Banana

Chillis are easy to grow in containers (provided the diameter of the pot is greater than 22cm) and can also be planted in the ground, either in a greenhouse or in the garden after all risk of frost has passed. Add compost when planting and water regularly. Plants can reach up to 80cm in height and may need staking, especially outdoors.

Did You Know?

The Scoville scale, developed by American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville in 1912, measures the heat of chilli peppers. Scoville units range from mild chillies like Anaheim (500-1,000 SHU) to medium chillies such as Jalapenos (2,500-8,000 SHU), hot chillies like Cayenne (30,000-50,000 SHU) and chillies that breathe fire like the Ghost Pepper (800,000-1,000,000 SHU) and the Carolina Reaper (2,200,000 SHU)! Hot Banana Chillies measure a mild 0-500 on the Scoville scale.
