Poplar, Hybrid Gaver Sett needs...

Populus Gaver

This super vigorous, disease resistant hybrid poplar is one of the fastest growing screening plants around; in good conditions, it can hit 15 metres in 5 years! It is often planted for harvesting as biomass fuel. You can also buy the hybrid poplar Robusta.

Poplars are classic shelterbelt trees because they grow so fast and tend to produce suckering stems from their roots, especially if they are pruned at all or grazed by animals.

Browse our variety of large trees for your garden or view our full range of trees for sale.

Growing Hybrid Poplar Setts

Any moist soil is fine, including on the coast, but dry, sandy sites are not suitable. Simply push the sett into the earth so that it is half buried, with the coloured end on top.
Your trees will reach 20-25 metres when fully grown.
