Sunny days and lengthening evenings

What a maverick March was – one minute cold and windy, the next we were wielding lawnmowers and waving watering-cans at thirsty pots. If the pundits are to be believed April still has a chilly pounce in store before temperatures SOAR (caps courtesy of the Express) to positively tropical levels with highs of 26 degrees on the cards.
The upshot is the gardening season is off to a cracking start; the clocks have gone forward and the prospect of sunny days and lengthening evenings in the garden is a cheery one indeed…
All lavender
Oh the agony and the ecstasy of choice! ‘Hidcote’, UK’s favourite with good reason, is compact, royally purple and hits the flowering scene from late June, accompanied by pretty in pink ‘Rosea’ with its vibrant green foliage. ‘Munstead’ blooms slightly earlier with a paler purple flower whilst ‘Alba’, a virginal white variety, looks stunning woven through other lavenders or silvery stars such as Stachys or Eryngiums.

Colour schemes for your garden

There’s no such thing as clashing colours in a garden. If Kenzo can mix and match pink and red so can we. Plant summer-flowering clematis of any shade and coax through flowering trees and shrubs, climbing roses, over arches – wherever you fancy.  I particularly love this delicious pink clematis.

April is awesome for...
April’s simply the best month to plant trees, shrubs, climbers and perennials, so if you suffered a fallen hero in last month’s tempestuous winds, now’s your chance to replace it.
There’s still time, too, for blossom lovers to bag a tree in flower – go for the elegant blooms of Hawthorn or opt for full-on floral bling with the showy pink double blossom of Japanese cherry Prunus ‘Kanzan’. Barbara Cartland would love it and so do we!

Sweet Peas
Our passion and our pride. We’ve extended our (already) extensive range and, as we may have mentioned before, our sturdy little root-trainer-grown prodigies are top of the class in terms of hardiness and early flowering. Order quickly before we run out and plant straight into pots or the ground for divine scent and colour in just a few weeks.

Protect your plants

Whilst we love our feathered friends, do protect fruit trees and gooseberries or they’ll have your developing crop before you can say – well – anything at all. Slugs and snails are on the rampage too so adopt your chosen offensive and deal with them before they deal with your carefully nurtured young shoots.

Water Butts

Unglamorous but oh so useful. Save water by installing one in preparation for the vaunted heatwave and (no doubt) imminent hosepipe ban. You can fill them with ‘grey’ bath water too for squeaky clean eco-credentials.

Of course we all know it’s calculated as the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. Who wouldn’t? But why not break the mould, forget the chocolate fest and ask the Easter bunny to plant a gorgeously scented jasmine instead?
We think Jasminum × stephanense is heavenly.
And finally, thank you...

We’re thrilled to have been awarded the Feefo Gold Trusted Service Award thanks to your kind reviews. We’re really proud of our hard-working team and delighted that you, our wonderful customers, think they’re great too.
