Description

Camelot Daffodil Bulbs

Now here is a really proper, straight up daff! Camelot is a classic of its type with an award-winning flower that is an even, pure gold throughout. The large cupped blooms appear in March/April and are circular with a deep, flared funnel that has an evenly serrated rim. The stems stand strong at 35-40 cm tall. Super healthy with a light fragrance, no wonder Camelot holds an Award of Garden Merit from the RHS; another reason why it is deservedly in our list of spring flowering daffodils for sale.

Growing Camelot Daffodils

One of the things about Camelot, the seat of King Arthur, was that he introduced a round table so that no knight was more important than another. In the same way, this daffodil will do every job you can ever expect a daffodil to do equally well. It is a marvellous, strong cutting flower; its intense gold colour is a welcome inclusion in herbaceous borders; containers full of Camelot are the stuff of leprechaun's dreams and it will even compete with grass and naturalise easily along verges or down banks. Precede Camelot with Ellen or Sempre Avanti for contrast and to extend the season. And for the competitive gardener - and which of us is not? - with designs on next year's garden show, Camelot is a shoo-in for best in daffodil and much else!

Myth and Lore

As a company based in Somerset we definitely like references to King Arthur, Camelot, Avalon and so forth what with Glastonbury and Cadbury Castle being so close. There are a surprising number of plants named after the folk from these wonderful legends.

Our Potted Bulbs A 1 litre pot contains approximately:
  • 10 small bulbs: anemones, crocus, dwarf daffodils, iris reticulata etc or
  • 5 large bulbs: hyacinths, daffodils, tulips

Planting Instructions

Plant Camelot bulbs in borders, containers and grassy areas where they naturalise well. In pots all daffodils need cool conditions because excess heat makes the flower buds die.

Daffodils and Narcissi flower best in a sunny spot in neutral to alkaline soil that is well-drained, fertile and retains some moisture while the bulb is growing.

Camelot daffodils should be planted about 10-15 cm deep. In grass where they are to be naturalised and in sandy soils, you can go up to 5 cms deeper.

It is a good idea to water in dry spring weather as later flowering bulbs may not flower if they are too dry. To increase bulbs size for the following year dead-head as soon as the flowers fade. Allow the leaves to die back for at least 6-8 weeks before mowing.

You can also apply a high potash fertiliser in the growing season to bulk up the bulb for the following year. Lift, divide and replant clumps of bulbs if flowering is poor or the bulbs are overcrowded.
