Bora Bora is a semi-cactus dahlia with a sunburst colour scheme: coral pink outer petals that shade to warm yellow at the centre, creating a radiant glow. The semi-cactus form means the petals are rolled and pointed rather than flat, which gives each 15 to 20cm bloom a star-shaped quality and the practical advantage of shedding rainwater.
At 100cm with strong, upright stems and bushy dark green foliage, it's a solid mid-border plant. The rain resistance is a genuine selling point. Where large flat-petalled decorative dahlias collapse in a British downpour, Bora Bora's star-shaped flowers shed the water and keep going.
The coral-to-yellow gradient works in tropical and warm schemes. Plant with Bishop of Llandaff (scarlet, dark foliage) and cannas for a hot, exotic border. Brown Sugar (paprika ball, 90cm) picks up the warm tones in a different form. For cutting, the long stems and rain-resistant flowers make Bora Bora a reliable choice.

Better than most. The semi-cactus form means rolled, pointed petals that shed water rather than cupping it. The flowers aren't top-heavy either. In a wet British summer, that's a genuine advantage over dinnerplate types.
At 100cm it's borderline. A large pot (at least 35cm) with staking and regular feeding will work. Our pots guide covers what works in containers.
Excellent. Strong stems, rain-resistant flowers, and the coral-to-yellow gradient looks striking in a vase. Cut only fully open blooms. Full growing advice in our dahlia growing guide.
