Delivery season: Clematis are delivered in pots year round, when in stock. It's usually best not to plant out pot grown plants in winter, but to keep them until Spring, because they'll establish faster in warm soil and give you better first year growth.
Choosing a size: Small plants are cheaper and more forgiving of less than ideal aftercare, so they're best for a big planting project. If instant impact is your priority, or if you are only buying a few plants for use in a place where it's convenient to water them well in their first year, then you may as well use bigger ones. All our climbing plants come in standard pot sizes.

Growing Josephine Clematis

It'll be happiest in alkaline or neutral soil. Fully hardy, she demands full sun to fuel her marvellous flowers, otherwise they tend to come out green and underdeveloped. With that said, the underdeveloped flowers are considered interesting by some flower arrangers, so it can be grown on a North facing wall if these are desired, or you could try training some stems into the shade while the rest of the plant is in full sun.

History & Trivia

Part of the Regal collection by Raymond Evison and Poulsen Nursery, which are low climbers, great for pots and patios. Discovered by Mrs Josephine Hill in 1980, and introduced at the 1998 Chelsea Flower Show.
