Sailboat is a jonquil daffodil with white outer petals swept back from a small trumpet that opens rich yellow and fades to near-cream with age. Each stem carries two or three blooms, all sweetly scented in the way that jonquils do best — lighter and more refined than the big trumpet types. The RHS AGM confirms it as one of the most dependable dwarf narcissi for UK gardens.
At 30cm, Sailboat works beautifully at the front of a border, in a rockery, or in a container where the delicate multi-headed flowers can be seen and smelled at close range. It naturalises willingly in grass and well-drained soil.
For a jonquil succession, plant with Sweetness (golden yellow, slightly taller) and Pipit (lemon-and-white). All three are scented and all naturalise. See the daffodil collection.

Jonquils (Division 7) are smaller, more elegant, and more fragrant than the standard trumpet daffodils. They usually carry multiple flowers per stem and have narrow, rush-like foliage. If scent matters to you, start with the jonquils.
Excellently. Leave in the ground undisturbed and the clumps increase steadily over years. In grass, delay mowing until mid-June to let the foliage recharge the bulbs.
One of the best dwarf narcissi for containers. At 30cm it stays compact, and the scent is a particular pleasure at patio height. Plant closely in multi-purpose compost with drainage.
