Elspeth Thompson's Edible Hedge Plants
This is Elspeth Thompson's (Sunday Telegraph Gardening correspondent) recommended edible hedging mix. If it is ripe in this collection, you can eat it provided you get there before the squirrels and birds. 20% Hawthorn, and 10% each of Blackthorn, Hazel, Cherry Plum, Crab Apple, Blackberry, Elder, Dog Rose and Wild Pear etc. The plants knit into a mixed country hedge that is a production ground for delicious jams and jellies. We advise cutting the blackberry back to ground level every 2 years to prevent it taking over.
Please note, that, as with all our hedge mixes, final decisions about the mixture are ours. If you do not want to leave it to us, then please order the plants you would like in your edible hedge individually rather than buying a pack.
If this is not for you but you need a quick, effective barrier - why not take a look at our hawthorn hedge packs - quick, easy and much cheaper thana fence or wall....
