The 30th May is Mint Julep Day.
The bourbon based Mint Julep has been the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, on May 1st, since 1939 – bourbon being the signature spirit of Kentucky. Juleps originated in Persia and Michaelangelo apparently had a daily dose for medicinal values…use home-grown mint for your own delicious version!
Ingredients:
- 70ml bourbon
- 12 mint leaves
- 12.5ml sugar syrup
- ice cubes
Method:
Add a few sprigs of mint from your garden, and some sugar syrup in the base of a shaker. Add your favourite bourbon, then shake with ice and fine strain into a glass. Fill with crushed ice & add a sprig of mint to finish off – Yum!
