Hedge spirals, rabbit guards, are manufactured in rolls of 5, coiled up like springs: the harder you try to pull them apart, the more they grip one another. Unwinding them from the outside takes too long.
To pull them apart smoothly, grip the innermost spiral with a gloved finger, twist it towards you so that it gets narrower, and pull.
Spirals, perforated spirals, are made of plastic, recycled plastic, they can have sharp edges so it’s a good idea to handle them with gloves on, and they come in nests of five. There is a knack to getting the spirals out of the nest. You go for the one on the inside, and if you put a finger in and pull out a little spiral, you’ll see that there is a sharp, pointy corner, and if you take that corner between your finger and thumb, and turn it towards you, you make the spiral on the inside of the nest smaller, and you can just pull it out. And you have one spiral. And for each spiral in the nest, you can repeat that, turning it towards you, puling it out, until you’ve taken all five out. And that’s how to take spirals out of a nest.
Safety: spirals can have sharp edges, so wear work gloves.
