Boom Boom Yellow brings a soft, primrose yellow burst of colour and versatility to borders from late summer until the first frosts.
The flowers are classically ball-shaped, each delightfully constructed petal curved inwards at the base to give a soft, quill-like look. You'll feel those tactile silken petals when you cup the perfectly spherical flower heads in your hands. The flowers are brilliant for cutting and bringing indoors for vases. The foliage is fresh green, the stems are sturdy and long, growing up to 90cm in height.

All dahlias do best in deep rich soil with good drainage in a sunny spot. If it is windy they will need staking. They are greedy, thirsty plants so will need watering in dry spells, and they will always flower that little bit better if there is a bit of soluble food in the watering can once every couple of weeks.
It is generally more convenient to put support stakes in at planting time, rather than leaving it until there is foliage in the way.
That lovely pale yellow is a forgiving colour, so this dahlia will combine with all perennials in a wonderful display. Try planting in generous drifts with other dahlias in hot pinks, moody wine tones or vibrant oranges, such as deep burgundy Dark Spirit (that combination of buttery yellow and rich wine is delectable), or go all pastel soft with a romantic mixture of dreamy pinks, like Wizard of Oz. Another pairing would be with the gorgeous lime green umbels of fennel, Foeniculum vulgare; those delicate, flat, frothy flowers make a fabulous contrast to Boom Boom's structural qualities.
It was introduced in 2009 by Smits, in the Netherlands.
