About Rambling Roses

Order Bareroot Rambling Roses For 2026 Spring Planting Season

Rambling roses are the original giants of the family. Most flower once per year, explosively, around early June.

An established rambler will put out so much blossom that the foliage is almost hidden for about 6 weeks.

They are classics for growing into mature trees and to cover sheds and outhouses.

They are highly disease resistant, and suitable for a "very informal" country hedge - more of a wild barrier that's treated as a farm hedge.

This listing is for rambling roses; climbling roses have their own listing.

Pot grown stock uses peat free compost wherever possible.

Bareroot roses are grown on heavy clay in a well drained site (heaven for rose roots) and lifted to order.

  • When your order is ready: your mail order rose bushes are delivered by next working day courier (not the next working day after ordering!)
  • Friendly support: if there is anything wrong with your plants when you inspect them, Contact Us within 5 working days

All bareroot plants are covered by our Refund Guarantee, so you can give them a whirl with complete confidence.

Rambling roses are genetically close to their wild parents: Rosa multiflora, R. setigera, R. sempervirens, and R. wichurana.

This makes them more tolerant of shade and poorer soils than climbing roses, which have been more refined by breeding.

With a bit of creative tying-in, they can fulfil about the same role as climbing roses.

When and How do I Prune my Rambling Rose?

Mature ramblers need pruning in Autumn to remove a portion of their mature stems, to make way for the new growth.

When pruning tall thorny roses, head and/or eye protection against falling or whippy stems is wise, as well as long gauntlet-gloves, so you can get closer and work faster.
