Our Double Snowdrops are holders of the RHS Award of Garden Merit. They are grown in the UK specifically for the purpose of being lifted and sold to gardeners without taking these precious bulbs from the wild. These are our double snowdrops - Galanthus nivalis Flore Pleno, but we sell single snowdrops as well. The snowdrop family contains some of the earliest plants to flower and their small size and delicacy of petal and leaf belie their toughness. All they require, while they are in growth is moist ground containing plenty of organic matter. If you like the idea of carpets of delicate white flowers in late winter snowdrops then you might also like to take a look at the rest of our range of snowdrops for sale.
Don't forget that because snowdrops come into growth so early they can be planted under deciduous trees which are leafless when snowdrops need good growing conditions. That lack of leaf cover means light and moisture reaches the bulbs which are already dying by the time the trees above are coming back into leaf later in spring.
Double snowdrops bought for planting in autumn are dry. While it is always a good idea to plant as quickly as possible after receipt, the reality is that as long as they are kept cool, a delay of a week or two won't hurt too much. By contrast, snowdrops bought in the green for planting in spring are in growth. This helps them establish quickly, but it also means they really do need to be planted within a few days of receipt. So in spring, your bulbs are lifted immediately before despatch and are sent to you so they arrive with you on a Thursday or Friday in time for planting that week-end.
