Herbaceous perennials produce non-woody stems that flower the same year and die back in winter. The cycle is repeated annually and the plant may have a life expectancy of many years (never less than three).
They are generally hardy but are not shrubs and trees as they produce little or no woody growth. Herbaceous plants usually flower in spring and summer (a few in early autumn) and so are a wonderful addition to any border bringing colour and structure in summer and attracting bees and butterflies in the process.
You'll find an excellent selection here with a mix of tried and tested favourites and newer varieties. And you can be confident that you will be buying top quality and disease-free plants, grown in peat-free compost in pots that are increasingly recyclable. Happy gardening
