Description

Dill Herb Plants

Dill, also known as East Indian Dill, Anet, Meeting-seed, or Sabbath day posy, is a half-hardy annual herb with finely divided fennel like leaves that it produces in clusters. Dill has a strong, distinctive taste that is something of a mixture of aniseed, celery and faintly of fennel although with very slightly bitter undertones. In common with many herbs dill actively prefers poor, really well-drained soil to maximise its flavour. Full sun is essential for it to grow well. Take a look at the rest of our herbs and vegetables.

Dill in the kitchen

Dill is one of the unsung heroes of the kitchen. Its flavour is well known whether in Gravadlax, Dill Herrings or pickled cucumbers. It turns up in salads, sandwiches and when adding gentle flavours to something as tasteless as your average vegetable marrow. As long as it has sun it will grow in soil that is practically dust. A most rewarding herb.
