Growing Back of the Border Perennials

Give them plenty of space when planting, so they're seen to their full advantage and have room to bulk up in future years. Each one of our perennial collections range is designed to suit most small gardens, or decent size containers on a rooftop or patio.
Generally, they are hardy but like shelter from strong winds, and prefer moist, well-drained soil.

In Your Garden Design

So often, people forget how much space above a border there is to be grown into. It is classic design to have tall plants standing at the back of borders to draw the eye upwards, maybe to hide whatever's behind them. So think of height as much as colour when planting. To attract pollinating insects, make sure your season for flowering plants is as long as possible.

Did You Know?

Echinaceas, which feature in the collection and are otherwise known as coneflowers, originate from the prairies, woodlands and meadows of North America. The indigenous people there knew its many medicinal uses, and of course today it is such a popular herbal supplement that you almost may as well keep your plants in the border for the butterflies, and buy the stronger extracts at your local herbalist.
