Description

Climbing Lady Hillingdon Rose

The Lady Hillingdon climbing rose is a stunning repeat flowering climbing tea rose. Long pointed buds open to reveal blousy, yolky flowers that will brighten up any garden. As a climbing rose, Lady Hillingdon makes a welcome addition to any large bed or border, next to a wall or large trellis. Its strong, classic scent adds to its appeal. The vibrant apricot colour ensures that this rose works well with bright pinks and also makes it an outstanding scented cut flower. Browse our full range of climbing roses.

Great for your garden

Lady Hillingdon roses can climb to heights of up to 15 ft (4 metres). They like plenty of root-room in large beds next to a wall or trellis. If you have an arch or pergola, the Lady Hillingdon Climbing could be perfect for adding golden/orange hues.
The rose has received an RHS Award Garden of Merit as one of the best tea climbing roses. The large flowers appear with remarkable regularity all the way through to autumn.

Lady Hillingdon Climbing rose trivia

This beautiful rose was named after Lady Hillingdon, a British Baroness who has been attributed as the originator of the phrase ‘lie back and think of England’. She wrote in her journal in 1912: "I am happy now that Charles calls on my bedchamber less frequently than of old. As it is, I now endure but two calls a week and when I hear his steps outside my door I lie down on my bed, close my eyes, open my legs and think of England."

Planting Instructions

Growing Lady Hillingdon climbing roses

Plant between late autumn and spring. Prepare a planting hole larger than the roots and incorporate a 1/2 bucket of well rotted compost or manure. Position plant 18" away from walls and with the union level with the surrounding soil.
Likes sunny walls and a degree of shelter from the wind.
Happy in most well drained soils ideally with plenty of added organic content.
Regular dead-heading encourages further flowering.
Prune in late autumn after flowering.
Feed in spring with a good rose fertiliser
