Princess Anne™ Roses (Auskitchen)

David Austin is particularly proud of Princess Anne, a distinctive rose for its slightly bedhead, tousled look - the product of a new line of breeding. Each rose starts out deepest pink/red. The red leaches out to leave a rich, deep pink colour apparent on its 85 petals that are almost heart shaped and have a slightly yellow underside. The plant is slightly taller than it is wide and its roses are held in large clusters. The leaves are mid-green. Princess Anne does not possess the strongest of fragrances but has a light, tea rose scent. It is extremely resistant to disease and is easy to maintain, reliable and productive. Another RHS AGM winner in our range of roses for sale.

Where not in the garden?

This rose is no princess, more a no-nonsense rose which thrives even in poor soil and gives of its best all through the summer, right up until the first frosts. Rarely having a day off through disease or worse, Princess Anne is a workhorse that you can use to good effect at the front of a border backed up by Verbena bonariensis and surrounded by Geranium Rozanne or you could use it to make a stunning, low slung hedge. Princess Anne's neat and tidy bearing lends itself to being presented in a pot on the terrace where its striking colouring will stand out admirably. And do not neglect to plant another one for the cutting garden because its flowers last well in a vase. In essence, as does her namesake, Princess Anne rises to every gardening occasion.

Little Red Riding Rose

This rose is dedicated to Princess Anne, Queen Elizabeth's second child and only daughter who won the BBC Sport's Personality of the Year for her Olympic riding performance. It is because of her support and tireless work for Riding for the Disabled that David Austin particularly wanted to honour her.
