Menton Tulip – Coral, Orange, and a Warm Interior

Menton is a single late tulip in a colour that defies simple description — coral rose on the outside, ruddy orange within, the two blending together in a way that changes with the light and the angle. It is one of those tulips that looks different every time you walk past it. At 60cm, it has height and presence, making it a natural choice for the middle of a border or a tall cutting garden.

Single late tulips are among the last to flower, extending the tulip season well into May. They bring a maturity to spring planting — by the time Menton opens, the garden has woken up properly, and the warm coral tones sit among emerging perennial foliage rather than bare soil.

The coral warmth works with hot schemes. Plant alongside Orange Brilliant for a fiery combination, or cool it down with Purple Prince for a sunset contrast. Alliums take over as Menton finishes. Browse our full tulip collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a single late tulip?

The last tulips to flower — May, sometimes into June. They are tall (50–70cm), elegant, and extend the season beyond the earlier groups. The trade-off is that they are among the least likely to perennialise reliably. Our flowering chart shows when each group blooms.

Will Menton tulips come back next year?

Single late tulips are less reliable perennials than Darwin Hybrids or species types. Many gardeners plant fresh each autumn for the best display. If you want to try — leave the foliage to die back naturally, feed after flowering, and hope. Some come back, some don't.

How deep should I plant Menton tulip bulbs?

About 15cm (6in) deep, pointed end up. Deeper planting helps tulips perennialise. Plant in October or November when the soil has cooled. Our planting guide covers technique.
