Red Impression is not trying to be subtle. This is deep, clean, lipstick red — the colour that comes to mind when someone says "tulip" without any further qualification. No streaks, no blends, no fading. Just red. At 60cm, the flowers are held on strong stems well above the foliage, and the mid-grey-green lance-shaped leaves complement the glowing blooms without competing.
What sets Red Impression apart from the many other red tulips is a clear, light fragrance — unusual for any tulip, remarkable for a Darwin Hybrid. Lean in on a warm April morning and you will notice it. As a Darwin Hybrid, it is among the most reliable perennial tulips, returning strongly year after year where conditions suit.
Mass-plant for maximum impact — a single colour drift of Red Impression along a path or against a wall is one of the simplest and most effective spring displays. For contrast, interplant with Candy Prince (pale violet). Browse the full collection.

Better than most. Darwin Hybrids are the strongest perennialisers of the hybrid tulips. Plant deep (15–20cm), leave foliage to die back naturally, and feed after flowering. Many gardeners get three to five good years.
Lightly, yes — unusual for a tulip. It is not the heavy scent of a hyacinth, but on a warm day you will notice a clean, sweet fragrance if you lean in. One of the few tulips worth smelling.
Mid-April typically, bridging the gap between the early types and the late doubles. In cool springs, they may hold until late April. Our flowering chart shows the full sequence.
