Attar of Roses Pelargonium Plants

With delicate clusters of mauve-pink flowers and wonderfully fragrant tri-lobed foliage, Attar of Roses is one of the most popular varieties in our scented pelargonium range. It blooms all through the summer and well into autumn, providing long-lasting colour in the garden. Ideal as a cut flower, the leaves can also be used for infusions for teas, or to flavour jams and cakes.

Growing Attar of Roses

Pelargoniums are tender perennials, so they need to be brought under cover and kept in frost-free conditions over winter. To keep mature plants blooming at full capacity, use a high potash fertiliser in summer and deadhead frequently.

Planting Companions for Attar of Roses

This attractive pelargonium is perfect for containers on a patio table or near a path where the fragrant foliage can be enjoyed as you pass. It combines well with other pelargoniums and makes a beautiful pastel display when underplanted with white nemesia or soft pink verbena.

In borders, Attar of Roses looks great alongside garden pinks, lavender and salvias. Alternatively, grow them in a sunny spot indoors as a beautiful, scented houseplant.

Did You Know?

Attar, or ittar, is a fragrant essential oil derived from plants, invented by the medieval Persian genius Avicenna (Ibn Sina) about a thousand years ago. Attar of roses is made from the Damask rose and used in the perfume industry. It gave its name to this rose-scented pelargonium which offered a cheaper alternative to the expensive rose-based attar.
