Dahlia Dark Spirit

The fashion for dramatic, deep-hued flowers has never been greater and Dahlia Dark Spirit is the epitome of this trend which is why you will find a number in the rest of our range of dahlias for sale. And with Halloween lasting for what seems like a month these days the dark burgundy, almost black double spherical blooms will add a hint of the Day of the Dead celebrations to any garden! They look pretty good in late summer as well...

Each 7cm-8cm flower is made up of layers of velvety, inwardly curved petals creating an almost spherical bloom. Tall, sturdy stems provide excellent support and this dahlia only grows to 90cm tall.

Introduced in 2002, Dark Spirit is perfect for the goth or horror enthusiast in your life!

Using Dark Spirit Dahlias In Your Garden

Use these dark flowers in a rich, late season bouquet, pairing them with other dahlias in deep orange and red and - if there has not been a frost - let them form the backbone of your Halloween arrangements.

The flowers are small enough to be used in wearable floristry, like a corsage or even a Day of the Dead crown (fitting, since the dahlia originally came from Mexico).

In the garden, Dark Spirit will provide a wonderful counterpoint to virtually everything - but like all very dark dahlias it does need a floral contrast. Either pale or bright vibrant shades look fantastic. By themselves flowers as deeply coloured, as Dark Spirit can get lost in the lengthening shadows of autumn.

Being a compact variety this is a dahlia that will thrive in patio containers, but be sure to feed and water well - dahlias are thirsty - and keep plants deadheaded.
