Edge of Joy is a small decorative dahlia with a colour combination that makes people look twice. The petals are white with vivid wine-red edges that lick up from the base, surrounding a bright golden centre. At only 7cm across, the effect is like a miniature bicoloured camellia.
At 90cm with a narrow 45cm spread, it's compact enough for pots and the front of a border. The small flowers on sturdy stems make it excellent for posies, table vases and even floral headdresses. It flowers from July to November.
The white-and-wine colour works alongside other bicolours. Plant with Checkers (burgundy-and-white ball) for two bicoloured dahlias in different forms. Wine Eyed Jill (peach-and-purple ball, 90cm) picks up the wine tones. For a simpler contrast, Boom Boom White (white ball) echoes the white at a larger scale.
Our dahlia tubers are Dutch first-class quality, imported direct and hand-graded by us. We reject undersized tubers so you get a clump with viable eyes, ready to grow. Delivered by next-day courier from March, with our one-year plant guarantee, Feefo Platinum Service Award, and human support from the team in Somerset. Browse the complete dahlia collection.
The 7cm flowers are perfect for posies, table vases and floral headdresses. They last well in water. The compact size means they won't overwhelm a small arrangement the way a dinnerplate would.
At 90cm with a narrow spread, it's genuinely well suited to containers. Use a pot at least 25cm across. Our pots guide covers the detail.
The intensity varies with each bloom. Some flowers show more red, others stay mostly white with just a blush. Temperature affects it too: cooler nights tend to intensify the colour. Full growing advice in our dahlia growing guide.
