Pinelands Pam: Fringed Petals Like a Firework Caught Mid-Burst

Pinelands Pam is a fimbriated dahlia. The petals are linear and split at the tips, creating a fringed effect that gives each enormous bloom the look of a firework caught mid-explosion. The colour is rich yellow, tipped with red and pink where the petals divide. At 20 to 25cm across, these are show-stopping flowers.

At 120cm it needs staking and a position towards the back of a border or in a cutting bed. The flowers are big and fairly heavy, so get your supports in early. It flowers from midsummer to the end of autumn, and the cut flowers last well in a vase.

Placing Pinelands Pam

The yellow-and-red fringed flowers need calm neighbours or they'll compete for attention. Cornel (deep maroon ball, 120cm, same height) provides dark contrast in a tight, structured form. Golden Sceptre (yellow ball, 90cm) picks up the yellow without adding more fringed texture. Pennisetum grasses soften the display.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does fimbriated mean?

Fimbriated dahlias have petals that are split or fringed at the tips, giving each flower a shaggy, textured, firework-like appearance. Ambition also has fimbriated petal tips but is much more compact. Our types guide explains the classification.

Will Pinelands Pam grow in a pot?

At 120cm with flowers up to 25cm, it's too big for a container. Grow in deep border soil with proper staking. Our pots guide covers what works.

Is Pinelands Pam good for cutting?

The dramatic fringed flowers make a real statement in a vase. Just a few stems fill an arrangement. Cut only fully open blooms. Full growing advice in our dahlia growing guide.
