Rowans, mountain ash and other members of the Sorbus family tend to be small to medium-sized, fast-growing trees that thrive in good, well-drained soil. and an open position where they range in height from 6-18 metres tall. Almost all rowan trees carry creamy flowerheads in May/June which are followed by a range of striking leaf forms and colours ranging from silver to dark green. These in turn yield to a lovely display of autumn colour which shows off berries ranging from white through yellow to orange and the deepest red. As a family Sorbus are extremely useful as avenue trees, in smaller gardens and as lawn features and bird attractants. Not for you? Have a look at the rest of our range of ornamental trees.
