Viola sororia Freckles

If ever a flower was a charmer, then Viola sororia Freckles must be up them with the best of them! These cute little violas have 2cm wide white flowers liberally speckled with purple-violet, creating a really stunning effect, held above handsome dark green leaves. This is a selected form of the Eastern North American woolly violet and is incredibly easy to grow, as it self-seeds liberally.

Growing up to 20cm tall, with a spread of 30cm, Freckles won't take up much room and will happily cope with conditions ranging from full sun to partial shade, flowering from April to July/August

Great In Your Garden...

Violet Freckles is a great performer - it's easy to grow, so is perfect for beginners and children - and you don't even need a garden! It will grow perfectly in pots, large containers and troughs, looking especially good with spring bulbs, especially daffodils.

It's ideal for a wildlife or naturalistic woodland-style garden, as wild violets are used to life with dappled shade. Pollinators will love those single flowers as much as you do.

Use Freckles in semi-shady borders as underplanting with spring bulbs - their long flowering period will both complement the flowers and will continue on into July, hiding the dying bulb foliage.

They are also excellent ground cover under shrubs and roses, creating an area of interest instead of bare soil.

Use the flowers as posies in tiny vases or jugs with daffodils to brighten up your home.
