Coastal hedge plants need to have the combined qualities of being good in the wind, not minding salt and growing in sandy and often poor soils. The plants on this list all do just that. Some prefer warmer areas, some flower, some have good foliage. But they are all good seaside "doers" and are excellent for proving low windbreaks, cover for wildlife and extremely low maintenance privacy hedges (just think what a seaside gale does to a close boarded fence).
