Delivery season: Clematis are delivered in pots year round, when in stock. It is usually best not to plant out pot grown plants in winter, but to keep them until Spring, because they will establish faster in warm soil and give you better first year growth.
Choosing a size: Small plants are cheaper and more forgiving of less than ideal aftercare, so they are best for a big planting project. If instant impact is your priority, or if you are only buying a few plants for use in a place where it is convenient to water them well in their first year, then you may as well use bigger ones. All our climbing plants come in standard pot sizes.

Growing Olympia Clematis

It will be happiest in alkaline or neutral soil. Fully hardy, it is best to plant it out of full sun in the Southern half of the island, because too much sun, especially at midday, tends to fade the colour.

Did You Know?

Part of the Boulevard collection by Raymond Evison and Poulsen Nursery, which are either very low climbers, or dwarf varieties that grow like a shrub. All of them are great for pots and patios. Introduced 2016.

The ancient town of Olympia, which is on the Peloponnese peninsula, should not be confused with Mount Olympus all the way up in Northern Greece, which is the penthouse suite abode of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Hermes, and Dionysus (Hades lives in the basement apartment). Olympia is where the original Olympic Games were held, and the length of the stadium there became the standard measurement stadion.

Planting Instructions

In the first spring after planting, cut all stems back to 30cm. Pruning is not necessary in subsequent years, but cutting back dead and damaged stems will keep the plant tidy and encourage vigorous new growth.
