It's a sun lover that will thrive in any well drained soil, although midday shade is good if your site is both exposed and dry. It's happy on the coast and is a popular choice for rockeries, containers, and crevices in walls.
This species holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Its native range is Central America, mostly from Mexico down to Panama.
