Gallery Bellini: Peachy Pink and Named After a Cocktail (Probably)
Gallery Bellini's name could come from Giovanni Bellini, the Venetian Renaissance painter, or from the Bellini cocktail invented at Harry's Bar in Venice in 1948. Given the flower's peach-pink-and-white colour, the cocktail seems the more likely inspiration. Either way, it's a dahlia with a good name and vivid flowers.
The blooms are 13cm across, pink streaked with white, with a warm yellow centre. The overall effect is lively and cheerful, less subtle than some of the Gallery range but more eye-catching in a pot or window box. At 50cm tall, it's compact, no-staking, container-friendly, and flowers from June to November, which is a longer season than most dahlias manage.
Part of the Gallery series bred by Verwer in the Netherlands for pots and border fronts. The short, branching stems mean it's better for small posies than tall vase work, but the blooms last well in water.
What Goes with Bellini
The peachy-pink works in warm or pastel schemes. Plant with Gallery Pablo (yellow with peach tips, same height) for a warm compact pair. In a border, taller Daisy Duke (coral-pink decorative, 90cm behind) continues the warm tones at greater scale. White cosmos or Nicotiana provide a fresh backdrop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Gallery Bellini named after the painter or the drink?
The Gallery series is officially named after art movements and artists. Giovanni Bellini was a Venetian Renaissance painter. But the Bellini cocktail, invented at Harry's Bar in Venice in 1948, is peach-coloured, and this dahlia is peach-pink. We'll let you decide.
Will Gallery Bellini grow in a small pot?
Happily. At 50cm tall, a pot of 20 to 25cm across is enough. Rich compost, fortnightly feeding from June, regular watering. No staking needed. It's bred for exactly this purpose. Our container guide covers the detail.
Does Bellini start flowering earlier than other dahlias?
It can start as early as June, which is two to three weeks ahead of most dahlias. The compact habit means less stem to build before flowering begins. Full growing advice in our dahlia growing guide.
