Description

Rivers Early Prolific Plums

Rivers Early Prolific plum trees produce quite small, unusually round and very dark blue fruits that are outstandingly good dual-purpose plums. A bit like Marjories Seedling but smaller and earlier....

It is a widely held misconception that to produce ripe fruit early in the season, a tree needs to flower early as well. Rivers Early Prolific is is the living proof that logic does not always apply. Although an early cropper it is not a bad choice for areas that suffer from spring frosts because it also flowers late. A very useful plum indeed that has stood the test of time. Rivers Early Prolific is self-fertile and a good pollinator for other plums and damsons. The fruit is generally ready to pick in July and sweetens as it is left on the tree.

All the plum trees we sell like a sunny spot and they need soil that has a high content of organic matter and good drainage to perform at their best.

Please note that all our Rivers Early trees are on St Julien A rootstocks unless otherwise described.
