The All Seasons pack is 50 bareroot hedge plants, five each of ten species, chosen to give you flower, leaf colour, berries and bark through the year. It costs less than buying the same plants singly, it includes some thorny plants for a secure boundary, and one pack makes about 16 metres of single row hedge.

These "All Seasons" hedge packs are mixed bundles of 50 plants. You can buy the same plants individually by ordering them from their respective pages, but you will save money on the same size plants with the hedge pack.

We will choose 10 of the following plants to go into the hedging mix: we regret that we cannot accept requests for specific plants to be used in your pack. If you want to be certain of having a particular plant in your hedge mix, please order it separately.

Crab Apple, Cherry Plum, Field Maple, Forsythia, Wild Pear, Philadelphus, Scotch Rose, Snowberry, Purple Berberis, Dogwood, Amelanchier, Hazel, Wild Privet, Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Alder Buckthorn, Wayfaring Tree, Shrub Honeysuckle.

These decorative hedge plants have a colourful range of leaves, flowers and bark that will provide year-round interest, with a few edible fruit and nuts too. They're suitable for most gardens with reasonably fertile, well-drained soil. Some of the plants in this hedge mix may be poisonous to livestock. The mix will include some thorny plants, creating an effective barrier.

All Seasons hedge packs are only delivered bareroot, during winter (November to April).
The plants in this pack will be 30-80cm tall when we deliver them. All our hedge plants are measured by their height in centimetres above the ground (the roots aren't measured).

Spacing an Ornamental hedge:

Plant your hedging at 3 plants per metre, 33cm apart, for a secure hedge.

For an even better windbreak and wildlife habitat, you could plant at 6 plants per metre in a staggered double row, with 33cm between each plant along the row and 40cm between the rows.

Each pack of 50 plants will make about 16 metres of single row hedge, or about 8 metres of double row hedge.

Planting Companions

Every plant in the pack is sold on its own page, so you can top up a favourite: Red Ramanas Rose for flowers and hips together into autumn, Common Dogwood for winter stems, or Wayfaring Tree for flower and berry. Dust the roots with Rootgrow as you plant.

Can you choose the plants in your pack?

No. We cannot take requests for a pack. If you want to be sure of a particular plant in your hedge, order it separately from its own page and plant it in with the rest.

How far does one pack go?

At 3 plants per metre, 50 plants make about 16 metres of single row. In a staggered double row at 6 per metre, the same pack makes about 8 metres.

Do the plants arrive mixed?

No. They arrive bunched by species, so mix them yourself as you plant. Set the bundles out along the row first and you will get an even spread.

Is the hedge thorny?

In part. Hawthorn, Blackthorn, the Rose and the Barberry are all thorny, which is what makes the hedge a secure barrier. Wear gloves when you plant and trim.

How tall are the plants on delivery?

Between 30 and 80cm, by species. We measure every hedge plant by its height above the ground, and the roots are not counted.

When are the plants delivered?

Bareroot only, from November to April, while the plants are dormant. You can order at any time of year and your plants are lifted and sent once the season opens.
