Damson Trees

Damsons are so closely related to plums (they are in fact a plum sub-species) and yet are astringent where their larger cousins are sweet. To be fair, some damsons such as Merryweather, can be eaten straight off the tree and all get sweeter as they ripen, but the real use for damsons is found in the kitchen. They make the best jam. In eastern Europe they make the perfect Slivovitz and anyone who has drunk a good damson wine will understand why it was once nearly a highly rated as port. So they deserve their own niche in our range of fruit trees for sale
