Darcy Bussell® Roses
Darcy Bussell Davud Austin Rose (Ausdecorum)
Don't get us wrong - this is one of the most wonderful roses to have been bred in recent years, but Darcy Bussell the ballerina is elegant, slim and oh so tall, while the charm of Darcy Bussell® the rose is that she is one of most neatly and tidily compact shrub roses with the most fabulous red flowers on the market. What the two do have in common is that neither ever disappoint and David Austin has bred another winner. Darcey Bussell® performs so generously and continuously that you want to enquire where she gets her stamina? The young roses have outer petals that form a perfect tutu around the inner cup. As the petals unfurl they loosen to a relaxed rosette of deep rich crimson that takes on a tinge of mauve just before the petals drop. The bushy, multi-stemmed growing habit means that masses of flowers emerge that seem to last for aeons. With healthy foliage and good disease resistance Darcy Bussell® is one of the elite sports women of the rose world and so it is no wonder that she has received the RHS AGM. Darcy Bussell® on Stage
Darcy Bussell® (Ausdecorum) is more than capable of being that prima ballerina so that any other plant feels like mere distraction. As such it makes a world class bedding rose where you only require masses of Darcys close together to provide a superlative summer arabesque for months on end. Equally the bushy, compact habit lends itself to being cast as a showstopper of a hedge, or consider a pas de deux with lavender, either Hidcote or Munstead. Being so diminutive makes Darcy Bussell® unusual in that she can also be used right at the front of any herbaceous border or at the base of climbers like wisteria or other climbing roses. If you are looking for a similar but larger rose try William Shakespeare or for a more closed flower, hybrid tea rose we also stock Royal William.

Darcy Bussell herself was dancing as principal ballerina for the Royal Ballet at the unusually young age of 20 and has been awarded an OBE for her services to ballet. Now in serious danger of becoming a National Treasure in her new role as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, like many beautiful and famous women she had this rose named in her honour.
