Growing Rolein Onions

Full sun and a well-drained, fertile soil that is not rich in nitrogen is ideal. Beds that were dug over with lots of manure for other crops the year prior are usually great for onions.
The tip of the bulb should be at surface level.

Onions are commonly grown as a companion for carrots to help deter carrot fly with their strong odour, and in turn some strong spearmint or peppermint plants are good for protecting your onions from their flies.
