Grapes for wine and fruit are mostly a greenhouse crop in the Northern two thirds of Great Britain, but they are fine looking plants and practical for casting shade in summer, and there are several varieties that are grown ornamentally with the fruit as a fragrant part of the decoration, and then usually bird food or compost at the end.

When planning a grape greenhouse, remember that the roots are usually planted outside, and the vines grow directly into the greenhouse or poly tunnel. In the South, they still need a good summer to crop their best out in the open, but a sunny sheltered microclimate against a warm brick house helps a lot.
