Description

Tulipa Crystal Star

One could imagine the Crystal Star tulip hanging in the night sky, a beacon to weary travellers; its glorious golden colour illuminating all around it. The petals are monotone and the ragged hem edges catch the light (and your attention) looking genuinely like crystals growing. The result is a traditional flower with a contemporary twist to liven up your spring garden.

Shining in the garden

Fringed tulips are tall and so Crystal Star will sway elegantly, lantern-like, over any bedding scheme with lower growing plants beneath. They are also equally at home popping up in an herbaceous border when little else is going on. A swathe of Crystal Star is something to behold but interspersed with other fringed or Lily tulips is perhaps to see them at their best. For real pzazz Burgundy Lace has similar form and is a deep wine-red or salmon pink Lily tulip Yonina for that matter. For a gentler duo, try Lily White Triumphator with its elegant silhouette and pure white petals. Although tulips do look wonderful in pots, these are very tall so you would need to balance their height with the size of your pot or urn and also make sure that it wasn't in a windy position. If you are after simpler, more understated tulips at this time of year, have a look at the rest of our tulip collection.

Did you know?

The etymology of the word crystal comes from the Greek to mean icy cold or frost and the fringed frills on the edge of the 'Crystal Star' does look exactly like those fingers of frost encrusting window panes or the edges of birdbaths in a hard winter.
